Warning to consumers – do not be deceived by the misuse of ESMA and Hanfa logos and false certificates
The Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (Hanfa) and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) are drawing attention to an increasing number of frauds related to investments. These are not cases of investments but attempts to deceive the public. In these cases, logos of supervisory bodies Hanfa and ESMA are used falsely, as are the names of their officials, names of teams and departments. In some cases, false internet websites representing ESMA’s official sites are published or sent to citizens.
If you receive suspicious or clearly false requests, do not access the links, answer the requests or give personal data. In case of doubting the authenticity of any received correspondence claiming to be ESMA’s, forward it as an attachment to the email BUL@esma.europa.eu. If you have become a victim of fraud, please report it to the local police.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that Hanfa does not issue any certificates to foreign investment companies. Instead, after receiving a notification from their national competent authority, it enters them into its public register of investment service providers able to offer investment services to Croatian citizens. The Register of foreign investment companies and the Register of management companies that meet the conditions to provide investment services to Croatian citizens are available at the website of Hanfa.
