Warning: BitLucky was not registered for investing in crypto-assets
Due to Croatian media coverage on BitLucky d.o.o., a company from Kostrena that allegedly brokered in cryptocurrency trading and inflicted financial damage to Croatian citizens, the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (Hanfa) is drawing attention to the following facts:
Activities related to virtual assets are not currently regulated by special regulations in Croatia and Hanfa does not issue authorisations to entities performing such activities, does not authorise their management members and is not authorised to supervise the provision of such services.
Since 2020, Hanfa has been responsible for the supervision of the implementation of the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act concerning providers engaged in exchange services between virtual currencies and fiat currencies and custodian wallet providers, and supervises whether such persons and companies implement all the measures and procedure provided for in that act. Currently, Hanfa keeps a list of companies that perform the concerned activities, which is available here.
Company BitLucky is registered in the court registry for a series of activities, but none of them is an exchange service between virtual currencies and fiat currencies or custodian wallet service. Therefore, BitLucky is not in Hanfa’s list, and given that activities related to virtual currency are not enlisted as a subject of its operation in the court register, it is not within the scope of Hanfa’s supervision.
Since such and similar frauds related to cryptocurrency investments are frequent worldwide, we want to remind Croatian citizens once again not to be deceived by calls by unknown persons, various ads and invitations on social media or different websites promising high yield. Furthermore, we are warning them not to invest their money in financial products they do not understand and concerning which they have not checked the authenticity and authorisation of financial brokers, irrespective of the type of investment. Due to its exceptional volatility, that market is risky and there are no guarantees or return of the money lost in case of a fall in the value of cryptocurrencies.
